DECEMBER 2022 CLIMATE BULLETIN

During December 2022, days were remained hot over several portions of the country for instance Afar, Ethiopian Somali, Western Amhara and some Southern parts of Oromia. In particular, the extreme maximum temperature values were as high as 40.6, 39.0, 38.6, 38.4 and 38.2oc over Gode, Fugnuido, Elidar, Metehara, and Gambela respectively.
December is the third month of the dry season of Ethiopia. Hence, the monthly average rainfall doesn’t exceed 50mm over most parts of the country, except over Southern and Southwestern Ethiopia.The monthly total rainfall amount of December 2022 had also exceeded 80 mm over south and southwestern SNNPR, some western and eastern Oromiya, and estern parts of, Gambella. In particular, the monthly total rainfall values of December 2022 were as high as 100mm over Gore, Jinka Majete, Maji and Mash. Besides, the daily rainfall values over Ginir, Sawula and Majete were as high as 50, 50,2 and 66,3 mm on the 31th, 8th, and 27th of 2022 December respectively.
In general, the monthly total rainfall amount of December 2022 was normal to below normal over much areas of the country except over western parts of Oromia, some parts of Amhara and Tigray. December 2022 was generally wetter than December 2021 over the country except over some pocket parts of the country
